Our Equipment

Our Towfish

Since I don't have a good picture of our tow...I thought a schematic from the manufacturer would work. The company is Endeco/YSI and the schematic came from their sales primer. If you are interested in any of Endeco/YSI's products, you can call them in Falmouth, MA at (508) 748-0366.

SUBS A2-2 SUBS A2-2 open

The two pictures above are of our SUBS A2-2. SUBS stands for Streamlined Underwater Bouyancy System (SUBS is a trademark of Fisheries & Oceans, Canada). We got ours from ROMOR Atlantic LTD in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada.

Our mooring

This is the mooring that we put into the water off of Resolution Island just southeast of Baffin Island. The SUBS A2 is at the top of the mooring and the orange cylinder and two stainless steel cylinders are at the bottom. The orange cylinder is an ARGOS transmitting bouy that would allow us to track the mooring (in theory) if it were to break loose before we got there. The two stainless steel cylinders are Benthos Acoustic Releases. They let us retrieve the mooring from the ocean bottom.

Attaching the Releases

Here is Andreas securing the releases to their flotation (the roundish yellow things in the previous picture). Isn't it nice of him to help me out like that? :)
