Goal: Provide each student with a set of quantitative tools to confidently argue polar science issues that relate to ongoing public climate change debates.

Format: This is an experimental class that combines traditional lectures on selected topics with workshop-style active learning modules to aid project-based problem solving.

Syllabus

Expectations: Each student shall be able to develop, apply, and critically evaluate

Basic science concept from physics, geology, chemistry, and biology;
Data to describe the State of the Arctic in space and time;
Interpretations of Arctic data using basic statistics;
Arguments that represent both science and personal values on Arctic Climate Change.

Grading: Homework (5x5%), projects (3x15%), Final (20%), active participation (10%)
